Child on bicycle struck by suspected intoxicated driver
SAN ANGELO, TX – A child on a bicycle was struck by a man who is suspected of driving under the influence on Wednesday, May 20, according to reports.
The suspect, 25-year-old Jesus Martinez, was driving with a passenger in his 2009 Chevrolet Suburban northbound in the 1800 block of College Hills Blvd when the incident occurred just after 5:00 p.m.
The child, a 7-year-old boy, was riding a bicycle east on College Hills when he was hit.
Authorities suspect Martinez was under the influence of an illicit substance when the incident occurred and charged with intoxication assault. The passenger, 25-year-old Devonte Carson, was arrested for marijuana possession.
The victim was airlifted to an Austin-area for treatment of his injuries.
The incident is still under investigation.
