Man dies in police custody after crashing stolen vehicle
AUSTIN, TX – An Austin man who crashed a stolen car and subsequently fought the deputies attempting to detain him died from his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
According to CBS Austin, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle careen off of Hwy 290 and crash into a fence close to Elgin at about 10:30 a.m.
Deputies with the Bastrop County County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services responded to the scene where they found the driver had been ejected from the vehicle. Upon their assessment, paramedics noticed he was struggling to breathe and had the man airlifted to Austin Heart Hospital.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly before 12:50 p.m. Officials have not released any information regarding their identity, pending notification of the family.
