Update: APD officer dies at hospital following July 28 truck crash

AUSTIN, TX – An Austin Police Officer has succumbed to the injuries he sustained while responding to a call in East Austin early Wednesday morning, according to CBS Austin.

This is an update to a previous news story.

Senior Officer Lewis “Andy” Traylor was responding to an emergency incident at about 2:10 a.m. Wednesday on FM 969 Road, near Ed Bluestein Boulevard, when the driver of an 18-wheeler truck made a U-turn, then collided with his patrol vehicle.

Traylor and his vehicle were pinned beneath the truck’s trailer. He was then taken to Dell Seton, where he died yesterday due to injuries sustained in the accident.

Traylor is survived by his wife and five children, all of whom are under the age of 13.
