One Dead, Two Missing After Boat And Tanker Collision

A member of a fishing boat crew was killed and 2 others were still missing after their 81-foot craft collided with a 600-foot chemical tanker, according to a January 15 article by OA Online.

The incident happened in the afternoon of January 14, near the entrance to Galveston Bay, just off the Texas coast. The fishing boat Pappy’s Pride capsized after crashing into the tanker Bow Fortune. Two of the fishing crew members were rescued and turned over to paramedics. However, the search continued until January 15 for the two other crew members. Unfortunately, the Galveston Beach Patrol said one of the rescued members died shortly.

Consequently, around 500 feet of containment booms have been deployed around the overturned fishing vessel that were carrying around 14,000 gallons of diesel. Because of this, teams ashore were performing shoreline impact assessments. According to the US Coast Guard, the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
