Person pulled from 2nd fire in 2 days at structure on S Congress Ave

AUSTIN, TX – An abandoned building in South Austin caught on fire this evening for the second time in two days, leading to one person being seriously injured.

According to KXAN and the Austin Fire Department, the incident occurred at 8530 S Congress Avenue at about 5:40 p.m.

One person was pulled from the fire, then taken to the hospital with possibly serious wounds. Their identity was not immediately released.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire.

At about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, AFD responded to a trash fire at the same building. Luckily, nobody was hurt as a result of that incident.

People experiencing homelessness may be staying inside the structure, according to authorities.
