UPDATE: Police ID pedestrian killed in Oct. 21 truck accident
AUSTIN, TX – Austin police have identified the man killed in a collision with a semi on I-35 on October 21, KXAN reports.
Police say that the incident happened as an officer was attempting to apprehend a pedestrian who was walking along the concrete barrier in the 7400 block of I-35. The officer turned on the cruiser’s warning lights, prompting a nearby semi truck to change lanes. The pedestrian then hopped the barrier and ran onto the interstate, where he was struck by the semi. His motivations for doing so are unclear.
The victim has been identified as Armando De La Cruz, 33. His death marked the 76th traffic fatality in Austin this year, an increase of nine over the same time window in 2019.
