Curling iron causes apartment fire

SAN ANTONIO, TX – According to KSAT, there was an apartment fire on early Thursday morning due to a curling iron left on.

The fire, located at the Baldwin Apartments in the 230 block of Center Street, was reported in at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The fire was the result of a curling iron left near rolls of toilet paper. It was contained to one unit in the building and put out by the sprinkler system. All residents were safely evacuated from the building.

Fire estimated approximately $10,000 worth of smoke, fire, and water damages.

No injuries were reported.

SAPD Officer injured in two-vehicle crash

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A police officer was injured after a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday night in the downtown area, sources report.

The officer was traveling with two other policemen southbound on Pecos La Trinidad when they were struck at an intersection by a sedan driving eastbound on Dolorosa.

Both the driver of the sedan and the officer claim they had a green light.

One of the officers was transported to a nearby hospital for medial attention.

All other individuals involved in the accident were uninjured.

Apartment fire displaces several people

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A fire destroyed eight apartment units and has left several families homeless, KSAT reports.

The fire happened on the Northwest Side at Sapphire Apartments, located in the 8000 block of Fredericksburg Road, shortly after midnight on May 31.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined and it is unknown exactly how many people have been displaced.

The damages are still being assessed and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Drunk driver caused major accident

SAN ANTONIO, TX – According to News 4 San Antonio, a suspected drunk driver caused a major accident early Friday morning.

The accident occurred on W. Military Dr. near Royal Gate Drive on the Southwest Side at around midnight.

Police said that a white car crashed into a black car as it pulled into traffic, causing a major accident that heavily damaged both vehicles.

According to police reports, the driver of the black car was intoxicated and belligerent. They charged him with driving while intoxicated.

Intoxicated woman crashes with 4 children in vehicle

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A woman has been charged after driving under the influence with her four children and striking a police patrol car on Wednesday morning, KTXS reports.

The suspect, Anabelle Karina Hernandez-Benavidez was driving an SUV southbound on Loop 410 when she swerved left and hit a San Antonio police vehicle. The police vehicle was parked along the highway navigating traffic from a previous traffic accident.

Hernandez-Benavidez was trapped inside her SUV and transported to a nearby hospital when she was extricated from it. Her four children were not injured.

She faces four counts of driving while intoxicated with children. Her children were released to the father.

The police officer was treated for minor injuries.

Man accused of fatal hit and run blames another driver

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A man involved in a fatal hit-and-run that left a woman dead is saying the accident was caused by another driver, The San Antonio Express-News reports.

Justin Antwan Jackson, 29, was arrested after he failed to stop and render aid following a fatal May 22 accident on the North Side.

Jackson was driving a truck on I-10 near Dominion Drive when he struck a stalled Ford Fiesta that had its hazard lights flashing.

He told police he had been trying to avoid another vehicle entering his lane and did not see the Ford Fiesta until it was too late.

Jackson then fled the scene, but said he was trying to chase down the vehicle that crossed into his lane.

Police officers found the 18-wheeler about 20 miles away at the intersection of Bowie and Crockett streets. The trailer was missing the front bumper and even had pieces of the victims vehicle stuck beneath.

When police approached Jackson, he lied and said he was a passenger and had been sleeping in the cab when the crash occurred.  Jackson also mentioned that he did not know the Ford Fiesta was occupied by anyone at the time.

Jackson said his employer told him to lie about the accident, whom he contacted after the crash.

Woman faces possible charges after killing man in San Antonio wrong-way crash

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A man was killed in a wrong-way crash early this morning on the North Side of San Antonio, according to a report from KSAT.

The crash occurred on Loop 1604 and Lockhill Selma Road early this morning around 2 a.m.

The accident happened whenever Mariana Campos-Jimenez, 20, was driving in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604. She hit a man driving an SUV head-on near Lockhill Selma Road.

There is no information at this time regarding the identity of the victim, who was dead when authorities arrived.

Campos-Jimenez was taken into custody for a possible charge of intoxicated manslaughter.

According to the report, authorities closed the eastbound lanes of 1604 for a few hours after the accident.

Driver flees scene after crashing into pole

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A driver of a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole in the front yard of a home and fled the scene on Wednesday, according to News 4 San Antonio.

The incident happened just after 1 a.m. at a home on Eisenhaur Road.

When police arrived to the scene, they found an abandoned truck that had crashed into the pole. It was obvious the driver had been speeding and lost control of the vehicle.

Police are looking for the driver.

Father and son killed in motorcycle accident

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A father and his 15-year-old son were killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday morning, according to reports.

Authorities confirmed that 36-year-old Reinerio Lopez and his son Franklin Lopez were riding a 2008 Honda motorcycle shortly after midnight near the 2400 block of General Hudnell Drive.

The father lost control while making a turn and hit a concrete wall, causing both riders to be thrown off the bike into a bridge pillar and guard rail.

Both victims were pronounced dead the scene.
