HOUSTON, TX. – A promising Houston high school football star was killed and two other people were injured in a crash on Highway 6 on Friday morning.
According to ABC 13 News, the crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on Highway 6 near Loch Katrine Lane. The deceased was identified as 16-year-old Tristan Sanders, a promising young football player who had recently transferred to a Houston-area school from North Texas. Sanders was riding in the back seat of a BMW sedan when a Hummer collided with the vehicle while passing through an intersection. The force of the crash sent the BMW spinning into a steel light pole nearby.
The other two occupants in the BMW, the as-yet-unidentified 16-year-old driver, and an 18-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the Hummer, 47-year-old Carlos Guillermo Ayala was not seriously injured in the crash. He has been charged with driving under the influence, and police say speed was a factor in the crash. We will continue to monitor this story for any further developments.
